Annual Dinner

The Rochester Section of the Optical Society of America also hosts an annual business meeting and dinner featuring an update of the year's activities and a special guest speaker. This year's talk will feature Tony Siegman and will be hosted at the Burgundy Basin on April 27, 2010. The dinner will feature an interactive "optics quiz-show".
The annual business meeting and dinner, including elections for next year's officers, will be held on Tuesday, April 27th at 6pm at the Burgundy Basin (1361 Marsh Rd, Pittsford). The cost is $25 per person ($15 per student). Spouses and children ages 8 and up are welcome. Please register by Friday, April 16th by paying your plant representative or by sending a check made out to "OSA-RS". Please see the details below.

"Optics Quiz Show"

Abstract:
In lieu of a technical talk, professor and author Tony Siegman will host an Optics Quiz Show. All attendees will participate in the quiz show, answering trivia questions about optics and lasers, the optics community, and local OSA history. We welcome spouses and children (age 8 and above) to come and join the fun as well!
Biography:
Anthony E. Siegman, a widely known researcher and teacher in lasers and optics, received AB and MS degrees from Harvard and UCLA in 1952 and 1954 and a PhD in Electrical Engineering from Stanford University in 1957. During the four decades following his appointment to the Stanford EE faculty in 1956, he supervised some forty PhD dissertations in microwave and quantum electronics and laser physics and devices, and authored a textbook on LASERS that is still widely used. He was elected to the National Academy of Engineering in 1973 and the National Academy of Sciences 1988, and during his career was awarded the R. W. Wood Prize and Frederick Ives Medal of the Optical Society of America, and the Quantum Electronics Award of IEEE LEOS. After retiring in 1998 he served as president of the Optical Society of America during 1999 and as a Board Member of the OSA Foundation until 2008. He is currently engaged in fiber optics research and technical and legal consulting.
Admission is $25 per person ($15 per student). Reservations (including guest names) must be made by Friday, April 16th, 2010. No tickets will be distributed.
